Old doors make a great “drop-leaf” garage work table. Especially the “hollow core” doors (closet, bathroom, etc) with no glass or panels in them.
Leave the hinges on the door but remove the doorknob hardware …… and mount the door sideways on your garage wall so that it “swings” downward to the floor.
Then raise the door up to a level “work surface” position and measure from the doorknob “hole” in the door …. diagonally to the corner where the floor and wall meet. Then cut a stick of (knot free) wood that is ¾” thick, ….. by 1” to 1 3/8” wide ….. and whatever length you measured above. You should probably cut the stick 1” longer than you measured just to be “safe”.
Then raise the door up above “level” position, ….. place one end of the “stick” in the wall/floor corner, ….. lower the door down so that the upper end of the “stick” engages the doorknob “hole” on the underneath side. Now check your tabletop for “level” and if not, ….. cut enough off the end of the “stick” so that it is.
Thereafter, when you need a “work surface” just raise the door up and put the “stick” in place …. and when done, …… just remove the “stick” and the door will hang flat against the wall out of your way.
Cheers
