1912 Liberty head Nickle

My mother has a 1912 liberty head nickle, with thirteen stars around the head, with v & cents on back with e plurabus unome above the v. From what I understand the coin is in fairly good condition, slightly brown. Possibly 1 of 5 only made in 1912. What would the approx. value be?

Hello Mark.......I think your referring to the 1913 Liberty of which 5 are know to exist. It is said that there was no regular government production of that coin, hence the rarity..........The 1912 plain (no mint mark) and the 1912D in fine condition is valued at 3-$5.00. The 1912S in fine is valued closer to $80-$100.............

incidently.......th e word "cents" was added after production began in 1883 because unscrupulous people would paint them gold and pass them off as $5 gold pieces............. ........Tim

Unfortunately they made hundreds of thousands of 1912 Liberty nickels so that year they are'nt worth much.
