Grinder

Hello again.
Another birthday gift. I got this grinder and I am trying to figure out what company made it and when. I have searched everything...vintag e 830 grinder, antique 830 grinder, vintage star grinder, etc etc. Any ideas?

Cowans had one a while back as a "star mill coffee mill #830 " Sold for $230. !!

This seller lists it as a cheese grater. I would have thought it was for nutmeg and other spices, but this comes from an appraiser so they would know better than me. Love it Hosman! The stars fit right in with the Independance theme!

Thanks for the link tales! I clicked on that one earlier but no pictures came up! I wonder when it was made and how they know it is German? It does look like a cheese grater, I thought it was but the shop said grinder. 
I did love the red and white and the stars!

Do a Google image search for grater 830 and you should see the pics that way

Hosman, how about a picture of the front of it.

Now I can vision clamping something onto the edge of a table to grind coffee beans or nutmeg ....... but not to grate cheese.

I'm going to agree with Mart until I see that picture.

Oh, maybe they got the "Germany" part from the "Made in Germany" on the metal. Shakin' my head. 
Can't believe I missed it! Actually, it says something else, too. Maybe it will get clearer if I take some pics of the mark. Will post them in a few minutes.

Oh, I can read it now! It says "Made in Germany Western Zone." So, does that date it to 1945-49? A little later than I thought it was.

This one gave me the idea that mine might easily come apart. Which it did.   Mine has the same wheel. I think that one was probably made by the same company.

That does look like yours. I had a similarly designed snow cone maker when I was a kid in the 60's. Here's a 50's ice shaver:



Perhaps you could do both and make snow cheese.
