Silver cup of unknown make and age
« on: January 10, 2012, 11:25:58 am »
Also have a other nice item that's to me silver . Smells en colours and polish like silver and weight is 192 grams . Been to a jeweller and  the also think it's silver but it has not been tested yet . So would like to know maker and age or where to look maybe ?

Thanks

I tried to search it for you and I found your question and same photos on another site from a year ago where you were given some good advice. You had a year to have it tested; why didn't you?

With a bit off hundreds off collected (antique) items and a bit off a bad health things get forgotten . So that's why it's not tested yet . But I know i still have to do this once the make sure . And it's makes it more interesting if I do know if it's old or not and I still don't  know  :(

Gerspee, Im' not an authority on silver (far from it) but a place to start would be to research Norwegian silver and a maker named David-Andersen.  The scales shown in your hallmarks appear to be his makers mark  This company is shown as being in business since 1901.  The link I got this from was  http://www.925-1000.com which is an encyclopedia of silver hallmarks.  Hope this helps.

Thanks and had quick look already . The small mark is like a number 4 (not to be seen on the photo because off the size ) . En de other one (KNO) must be a makers initials maybe ?

gerspee, the initials sure look like MNO to me and not KNO!

You're right with that one . Must be old age or so to make mistakes like that  ::)  . Have send the Davis-Andersen firm a mail with the pictures and the question if it's maybe from there firm . So no answer yet . will post the answer off course
