Trying to find who carved this piece
« on: January 14, 2012, 07:16:54 am »
We bought this beautiful piece at a yard sale and was wondering who carved it. Any other info is appreciated also.

Welcome to the forum.

Is this wood or resin?  The bottom initial look so "clean" is why I am asking.

Some of the resin pieces looks so much like wood that you would swear it came from a tree !!  I tried to enlarge it so I could see detail better but pic is big and enlargement is totally blurred !!

Well I looked up "resin figures marked ER" And it seems that ER means Epoxy Resin rather than a carvers initials !!  Guess that is why I didn`t find a woodcarver with ER initials !!  Sorry but these can really fool you and me occassionally !!

sorry about the pics. the original pics were too large for this site to take so I had format them down below 2000KB. My nephew knows a lot about camera settings. next time I will have him take better pics.

Epoxy resin, that would make sense. I would swear it is wood though. I'll take another look at it.

I too tried long and hard to look up carvers with the initials ER, but couldn't find any.

Thank you for your reply.

Some of these resin figures will fool the best of us !!  You might try testing with a hot needle,, the same as you test for plactic compounds !! Heat a needle by holding it with pliers then press into the figure and see if it melts !! Not sure if this would work for resin but it might !!  Of course use an inconspicuous spot so not to ruin the piece !!
