Dug up an old remington shell whats it worth?

Not much !! Just a brass casing,, hundreds of thousands made,, can`t be reused !!  Only way it would be worth anything is if it were fired from your shotgun and you killed Sasquatch with it !!  Then you could name your price !!

Malcolm,  The picture (at least on my monitor) isn't very clear.  It IS a shotgun load isn't it?  I can't tell from the muzzle end of it if it is still loaded or has been fired  Can you read what is on the headstamp?
I find a lot of the brass parts of shotgun shells while metal detecting, but it is odd to "dig up" a whole casing, loaded or not.

From what I can see it appears to be small shotgun,, 410 or 20 gauge,, doesn`t look big enough for anything else !! Top looks full of dirt !! Rim at bottom doesn`t look like rifle round !!

Yes I see what you're saying.  It was an optical illusion for me at start.  The rim of the casing is resting on the finger and is in a vertical position.  Judging from the length, which appears about one inch, it could be an empty large revolver casing, maybe a .44 Special or .45 Colt.  It would be interesting if he would tell us what the headstamp is. But like you say, not of any great value.

All I can make out is the No. and the 12  (12 gauge).  Can anyone determine the stamps at the top and bottom of the rim?

I believe it's a "Rem-UMC Arrow" headstamp. The UMC stamp would indicate post 1911 manufacture, probably 1920's?

Darn,, that is a 12 gauge !!  Sure looked smaller sitting on his finger !!
Says Remington 12  gauge, 1 oz which is a standard amount of shot !!  Looks like Apr 07 or 09 at the bottom but can`t see that very well !!  I think those paper wraps were dated !! Newer ones are not because the plastic keeps moisture out !!
