Hope Y'all Can Help ID this....

This object is my neighbor's who found it in an old barn...I don't think it is whole...I think it is only part of the tool, but I have no idea what it is.  Hope someone can help.  TIA.

That would be a "Hay Knife", used to cut a stack of loose hay into portions.

Thats the first one I have ever seen and I have been in Texas all my life and had livestock most of it !!  Never heard of a hay knife !!

So that is a Hay Knife?  Is there more to go with it, or is that the whole thing there?  The blade looks like half of a set of giant scissors to me, not to mention the slot in the one handle.  Just wondering...I check out the link now...

There was another type that was in the form of a spade with sharpened sections on the cutting edge. You would start on top of the stack and use the knife like a garden spade.
