How To Tell Heisey
« on: September 15, 2012, 02:41:56 pm »
I have a little dish that looks to my untrained eye, like a Heisey.  I know (almost certain) that it isn't.  But when reading about Heisey glass, the literature says that not all Heisey pieces have the H inside the diamond.  If the mark isn't there, how do you know?
It is better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool,
than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

You won't, unless someone recognizes the piece and tells you ....... or you look through all the Heisey books to see if it is pictured therein.

The 3rd option is to contact a Heisey Collector's organization via an E-mail with attached pictures and hope they respond.

Yup cogar hit the nail on the head that is why I said research is key and the old price guides (though values no longer apply and many throw them out due to this) have brilliant photos and measurements of pieces made in the past of marked & unmarked glass.  some book contain original adds or catalogs used by store owners to purchase merchandise directly from the company.  To a glass nut these books are like gold!! Ebay and many online sites can be great but sometimes place names and companies with a glass piece that are wrong so be careful. Although this piece does look like Heisey I have not found it as of yet in any of my glass library but have a few more books to peek at. Until I find an unmarked piece in print I can not say for sure it was made by that company. If you do want to collect and study glass look for theses types of books everywhere!!  ;)
