Seine River Tapestry
« on: September 10, 2012, 11:43:16 pm »
Any ideas? I found this in my grandfathers house it's a large wall tapestry in a frame. I know little to nothing about it.

I believe it's an image of the Pont de la Concorde and the Pont Alexandre III over the Seine River in Paris.

as this is in a frame...then it possible that there is a makers mark..or frame makers mark somewhere on the back....is the back of the tapestry visible....when you look at it from the front..is the weaving big or small...by this i mean.....machine done or hand loom.....a way to determine either is to measure how many threads there are to a linear inch...
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Are you sure this isn't painted fabric? I don't see and stitching or loom marks. I have many tapestries, or on yours the stitching must be very fine.

don`t think its painted,, but could be just a printed fabric !!  back in the late 60`s and 70`s many home crafters framed fabric like this then glittered the lines of the pic !!  could be that this one just didn`t get the glitter part !!

I don't have a picture of the back. I actually don't have the picture at all anymore. I took the picture before they had an estate sale of my grandfathers house. I've always been curious and was just hoping I'd be able to figure out where it came from. I asked my dad and he says it does have glass, it's not painted, it has fairly coarse threads. He hasn't seen the back in about 40 years because his mother got it framed.
