can you give us the dimensions...if i had found this i,would have been expecting it to be full of gold doubloons,or pieces of eight,....it looks ancient...as for age....a 100 + years perhaps....value... very little to anyone else....but to you...priceless
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Yea it looks really cool when I found it I took it to my granny instantly and was like can I have this, to my surprise she said yes.. Know what I know now I would have got a lot more from that house. The woman had a great history and was even miss Kentucky at one time and had her basement packed from floor to ceiling with cool stuff.

The chest is 7 1/2" tall 1' long and 7 1/2" wide..

I found the coolest looking vase there that I wish to this day I never sold. :(
It looked hand made like from clay and hand painted with a swastika stamped on the bottom of it. I took it to a local antique auction show and no one could tell me what it was. I had one guy say he didnt have a clue, then he chased me down about an hr later, stating he still didnt know what it was but gave me a $100 dollar bill for it. Being young dumb with a baby on the way I said sure, I have never been able to find out what it was. The closet thing I came up with was it might have been a urn instead.

Don,t beat yourself up about wishing you,d never sold this "urn"...we,ve all been there...at the time..it probably seemed like the right thing to do...and i have no doubt..you put the $100 to good use...but what i find most intriguing, is it had a swastika on the base...we,ve had a few discussions lately about this symbol...and contrary to what most people think of this symbol...its a good symbol....now back to this small chest...being the size it is..its most likely been used in the past for personal papers...birth certificates, family pictures...or items of that nature...as to the condition...well, i suppose we can call this..."the ultimate shabby-chic"...

Your small chest would probably be called a doll trunk in the Jenny Lind style. In good condition they bring good money.

Still dark !!  Opening is not the problem,, time it takes to download is !!  We are in the boonies and cost for installation of broadband is close to a grand !! I just can`t justify the cost for something for me to play with !! If I used it to make a living or something wouldn`t be bad !!  But its just something for me to piddle with !!

I'd guess 2nd half of the 19th century, no idea about value in this condition.
