Hip Flask Help? Think its late 1800's Early 1900's
« on: December 09, 2012, 06:30:11 pm »
I am trying to find a possible maker and date for a hip flask. Maker is a long shot - and any idea of value. I did a great deal of looking ebay, pictures and general online searching really kind of shooting in the dark. My dating guess is based on what I saw but if anyone has info would love to hear. It is a nice flask it is by no means in perfect shape the bottom cup part is splitting and some owner tried to fix it. I will attempt to undo that mess.

Can you please list the dimensions.  Materials made of (leather, stainless steel, enamel), etc.

Thanks!
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Here are shots of the bottom of the flask "Glass" and the flask "Cup".

Thanks so much for looking and thinking about it.

This is just eye balling the dimensions about 6 inches tall, and half that wide at it's wides point.

The metal not really sure, think it might be an old tarnished silver here is a picture. The top is leather, and the flask is glass, thick.

It is a screw top metal backed by cork. Is that why you think it is prohibition era, or is it the over all look?

I am not married to an idea of a date in my head, and prohibition era is a great time in history, but I feel that the design of the flask more fits those coming out of England in the late 1800's early 1900's. The rounded bottom of the glass, the cup that comes along with it. The Art on it has an early Arts and Crafts feel... I am no expert in this type of object when you said the screw top I got very happy because I thought I might be able to fix the date better but I have seen example going back quite far with metal screw tops backed my cork. I am not sure what makes you feel that way that it is prohibition era I ask to explore that train of thought.
