Does anyone recognize this little guy?

He was in a big box of silverware that I recently purchased at an estate auction.  The seller said it was a toy of hers when she was alittle girl.  So I'm thinking it goes back 50ish years.

Anything on the bottom of the feet ?? Looks similar to those cereal prizes that you could hold close to a light bulb and it would glow in the dark !!

To me,, that would mean Spoon Size Shredded Wheat from 50`s !!  Thats how it was advertised !!

In the 1950s ther were three characters called Spoonmen that were Spoonsize Shredded wheat box giveaways. They were Munchy, Crunchy and Spoonsize. They were made to slide onto the spoon. The little one was Spoonsize. The set is worth a lot of money. If two bidders need that one to complete the set 50-100.00 would not be out of the question. He looks like his antenna is missing however. I had the set as a kid. They put them in the boxes in order at just the rate the average consumer would buy the next box. All three used to ride together on my spoon. Try sliding him on a spoon. Now why didn`t I get that set ??  I ate enough of the shredded wheat !! Guess I was "into" a different cereal premium !!

I remember collecting miniature missles from Wheaties, I think. There was a spring loaded launcher. Each one was made to look like a Nike, Jupiter C or some other thing to give me cold war nightmares.

The one lingering memory I have to this day about eating oats or Cream-of-Wheat for breakfast is …. I sincerely dislike the taste of molasses.

T’was when sugar was “rationed” …… and molasses was the only sweetener mom had.

HA, couldn’t eat the cereal without it ….. and didn’t like the taste with it in it.

There were two molasses in my house. When we ran out of sugar they were the option unless there was pancake syrup. One molasses was called Black Strap and the other was Grandmas. Grandmas was palatable but the other should have been used to make rum. It was like sweet tar.

Well, I,m no to keen on it either..over here we call it treacle..black as night and sugery sweet...made by Tate & Lyle...I used to like it.as a child,..but when i was in my early teens...i got Acne..and my  mum used to make me take a spoonful of treacle that had been dipped in pure Sulphur..."Her Mums cure all"..and i was made to take this for a whole year...yuk,...and guess what....it did bugger all...apart from put me off treacle for life...

We always had Ribbon Cane syrup or Maple pancake syrup !!  I have Grandmas Molasses in my pantry now,,,just in case I need it !!  Some recipes call for molasses !!  Baked beans and some baked goods come to mind !!  I also add it to homemade bread occassionally !!  Just for a flavor change !!
