upright ashtray
« on: February 08, 2013, 01:02:51 pm »
Any ideas on the date or information of this ashtray?
It says wellington stone co number 7 on the underside of the top
and a patent is stamped on the bottom

I saw the same one in a google search but it wasn't sold, that seller said it was turn of the century.  I got this one at a local antique shop.

Thanks.

The patent says 1924 so......1924?

Bet it was from the late 20's to possibly early 30's.  That date is just when the patent was approved!  LOLOL

In excellent shape they sell anywhere from $30 to $45 in my area.

I have a couple of these. You are missing the glass ashtray.

Thanks for the date estimation.  That's what I paid for it too, $50.

Yeah instead of the original ashtray I am using a punched sheet-metal one that happens to fit.
What does the correct one look like?  Plain glass or are there any decorations?

Plain glass. Mine are Amber colored. They are hard to find because a lot of them got broken.

Most were amber color,, guess that was the "in" color back then !!  A few were clear and green glass !!  But if you find one don`t quibble about the color !!

Amber covered up tar stains much better than clear glass.
