Mortar and pestle
« on: February 23, 2013, 07:06:50 pm »
On a short vacation with family, found antique store who had this. For some odd reason I really like it.the original price $350 then dropped to $275,still seems like a lot. Solid brass, very heavy and is stamped 6 on bottom.any help would be great, heading home tomorrow.

Can you stand back and get the whole thing,,both pieces in one pic ??  Looks like spun brass,, the #6 would indicate the size which means they made a bunch of them !! Same way cast iron is marked with a number for size !!  Those pieces on the side would mean to me that either it had a handle at one time or that it sat in a holder of some sort both of which are gone !!  Doesn`t really look like a mortar to me because it is flat on bottom and most are rounded !! Need to see the pestle !!  I wouldn`t buy it !!

Well,, I guess it didn`t have a handle or a holder but it is way overpriced !! Look on ebay !!

If it was,nt flat on the bottom..it would,nt stay still...it would be all over the place....but apart from that...take Marts advice...and give it a "body swerve."..and as for dropping $75..in an instant...should tell you they,ve had it a long time...but if you really like it offer him $125....or nothing....
