I would replace that cord before I plugged it in for use. A good extension cord with the end cut off would suffice and it wouldn't hurt the value.

The higher the voltage the lower the amps. That why an old car distributor cap can knock you on your butt at only twelve volts. The formula is Amps = Watts / Volts   ex. 100 watts @ 120 volts is 1.09 amps. At 240 volts it is .545 amps.

I paid about $10-$15 for it, but I got it in a bundle of things so I'm not sure what I really paid for it. It's a great decoration though, I'd like to use it if it will work with our tree.

Wait till a month or so before Christmas and put it on Ebay,, you might be surprised at what it brings !!  If you decide to sell it !!  I would keep it !!

Thanks for the links, the antique dealer I bought it from told me it was from the 40s.

I think it is 40`s !! Not sure but they outlawed that type wire prior to 50`s I think !!  Caused too many fires !!

Its really easy if you stay away from their speed listing and add ons !!  Just a simple listing and a couple of good pics !!  And do not tie paypal into your main bank account !!  Most everyone has a separate paypal account at their bank !! Then they can transfer what ever money they need into personal account !!
