Need Help Dating this Old Card Game!
« on: June 16, 2013, 07:45:00 pm »
Found this today at the local antique shop. It really jumped out at me (with those bright colors) and the style of the box was too charming to pass up. I've been trying to do a little research, but I've yielded little results. I'm thinking it was made somewhere around the 1890's based on another card game I found by the same guy (Peter G Thomson), but I haven't been able to find this one specifically. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a sample of the instruction card and one of the playing cards (of which there are 60 total).

Nice box. This game has been around for a long time. If you go on eBay there are some older versions.

The most similar would have to be the McLoughlin Bro's one. That says around 1875, but I still haven't found the one from Peter G Thomson.

The game was first made / published in 1861 by Whipple & Smith Of Salem.

I would say your Thomson edition was a short lived run from the 1880's and pre-dating the Parker and Mcloughlin Bros editions.
