Jeannette Glass Company
« on: June 19, 2013, 01:50:48 pm »
My Mother collects a grape design footed candy dish by the Jeannette Glass Company.  I know they made a clear one and a milk glass one.  But are all the colored ones painted?  Even the solid red one and green one?

Yes you are correct they made this dish in Clear & Milk glass. All colors were a clear blank that has been painted actually sprayed with color so when purchasing be very cautious for paint loss and clean these very gently.  :D

Wendy aren't these a copy of the Northwood pieces produced earlier in custard and carnival. They look like the same blanks

HMM I have not seen one marked by Northwood, but he had tried to set up I think 3 companies in the Midwest & failed, with competition from the newly formed U.S. Glass, Northwood joined a similar co-operative...the National Glass Company but In November, 1899, Harry Northwood departed, leaving all his molds behind. By 1902 he had opened a new company. Where the molds he left in 1899 ended up and if this is one of them is anyone's guess.

Thanks for the help!!  I thought that might be the case, but my Mother has been searching for years for a red one made from red glass. I guess I can stop looking, whew!

Wendy,

Thanks. Once again my memory has served me incorrectly. I had it confused with a similar pattern.

Frogpatch WAY easy to do with glass so many makers so many similar patterns! One company would do a rose pattern and it would sell like hotcakes so all the other companies would make their own version of a rose pattern some so similar only maybe a leaf or vine was different.

I admire Wendy177 for all the knowledge she has acquired!  Even the best expert in the world cannot define all glass out there.  But she is on the road to hold that title one day!!!  :)

Thanks KC I do love my dusty old books on glass and it is what I read every night at bedtime! Reading American Glass by George S. and Helen McKearin now.  To me these books are glass bibles  ;)  Here is just one photo plate from the book  They are Covered Pokals made in  1788.
