Japanese Satsuma Vase Vintage or Modern?
« on: June 23, 2013, 10:50:42 am »
This is a recent purchase of what I think is a Vintage Satsuma Japanese Vase that measures about 6 1/2 inches in height with a 2 inch diameter base with crackling all over it that is hard to see in the image. What I would like to know is if it's a real Satsuma Japanese Vase and is it a modern or vintage (early 1900's) Vase?

Thanks!
Kevin

Very nice. Late Meiji period, think the mark is for Gyokuzan

No problem !

For future reference, that circle with inner cross is the Satsuma " mon ", or Shimazu family crest, and on all good pieces from there.

Just looking at the base rim and that vase might creep into the Taisho period so if describing it, say late Meiji or Taisho. The Taisho period was 1912 to 1926 and the flowers have a certain 20's look about them.

Not an exact science though
