Coffee/Teapot antique ... or junk?
« on: June 24, 2013, 03:43:46 pm »
Noobie here. Please be gentle.

I purchased this at a yard sale this past Saturday for $2. I can't find any manufacturer's markings anywhere. The handle cleaned up pretty well, but the rest of it ... I'm afraid to clean it anymore for fear of damaging it further. I really don't know what I have.

Soooo ... antique? ... or junk.

Thanks!

you,re afraid to damage a $2 purchase....the spoot is the most delicate part...and you never damaged that...so what makes you think..you,ll damage the rest....
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Good buy !!  Welcome to the group !! Looks like a nice little pot from a coffee service !!  Go ahead and clean it !! As long as you use a silver polish you will not hurt it !!  May be only silver plate,, can`t tell by just looking. When you have cleaned and polished it with a soft cloth, you may find the hallmark or name !! Silver was meant to be polished regularly and used,, not left tarnished !!

Ditto what Mart said.  Try and clean it up...can't hurt that $2 purchase!

It appears the silver-plating could be very worn or missing.  In that case you could leave as is, you can spray paint it with any color/kind or even metal coat, or you can decoupage it, or you can mosaic it!

The possibilities are limitless!!!!

You would be surprised what a little silver polish will do. Try it. It will take a little rubbing but you will turn that into something you will love.
