Chinese/Japanese? plate
« on: August 22, 2013, 08:46:37 am »
Hi guys, just interested to know if anyone can tell me a little more about this plate?

It is thick and very heavy for its size. It is hand painted and some of the paint is more raised and looks like enamel embellishment.

The condition isn't superb so I'm not expecting it to be worth big bucks. (I think value would be minimal if it was pristine even) but it has a certain charm and I'm interested to know more about its age and origin.

The bottom is discoloured and more a light golden brown than the usual off white of glazed pottery. There is some rubbing to the paint where the raised "scallops" are, and the gilding to the edge is also quite rubbed.

Thanks in advance for any information  :)
It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice.

It looks like either an egg dish or celery tray !! Lines are raised around the leaves and such ??   Kind if an inexpensive cloisonné is what it appears to be !! Probably 1950 through 1970 somewhere !! Hard to date without a mark of some type but that would be my guess !!
