Full Length Horse Head Hitching Post
« on: September 14, 2013, 02:26:04 pm »
This hitching post has been outside my parents' home since I can remember.  My father has passed, but my mom is still alive and is 86 years old. Apparently it was my father's great grand father's.  Can't seem to find this one on line anywhere but was told by my father is was very, very rare.  Anyone have any clues?  Thank you.

They still make this style nowadays, and they are fairly inexpensive, but a genuine antique will attract a premium. Are there any markings on it at all to give any clue to the manufacturer, as that could make a big difference.

I've found this one on offer

There is also this one but you need to log in..

I've found a few that have been SOLD, so antiques in that style are not quite so rare. Maybe the maker's name will increase interest?

Chloe's is better. I'd say $350.

It has the 'look' ... despite the paintwork.
I like it.

Ditto what Wullie said!

You can tell the aged ones by the weight!  They are heavier than the new ones!

Not sure whether Chloe wants to sell or just wants to find out more about it. A manufacturer would have helped with the latter, but it may just have to remain a mystery like so many other antiques. If you are wanting to keep it, then enjoy it, and every now and again spend a few minutes stroking it and let it take you back over the decades.
If you want to sell then it should sell, and over here where I am you could easily convert the estimated $ to a £ ... it has the age and the look, and there are plenty of horsey people over here who still have money who would snap it up.
