Cats Eye Silver ring?
« on: September 23, 2013, 05:46:11 pm »
Here's a cats eye ring I picked up at a local thrift store. It looks like real cats eye. And it looks like real silver, or sterling silver. But, there is no .925 or any other mark on it. It doesn't attract any magnet. By it's design, can you try to pinpoint what era or maybe a certain company that could have made these? Thanks!

Its not made by any company !! By the way its attached the set is something that was likely mounted by an independent jewelry maker or could be someones home project !! Many times these do not have a purity mark !!

Ok. What kind of prices do these types of rings end of selling for on eBay? Thank you.

I would agree with mart, not a company but an independent jewelry maker. Looks like silver with a cats eye stone to me. Although, it could be Alpaca or Nickel Silver (NS). Usually Alpaca and NS feels a little like nickel to me when rubbed between my fingers.

Usually unmarked rings don't go for a lot. My guess on a good day *might* be around $5 but who knows, find one like it in the completed area on ebay and see what they are going for. Good Luck!

Mart is correct....clever people ..the Chinese....thay import most of the worlds scrap metal....then churn out...everything from bean cans to cars...and sell them back to the west....i,ve seen similar rings on ebay...for .99p..with postage being nil....
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Without any silver marking (perhaps there is one under the stone,on the finding itself) it's not easy to quote a price ... but not much more than $15 (if silver)in this area on a very good day , valhom .
Kinda looks like a mass-produced finding (the metal ring) for mounting stones in , as found in 'rock shops/lapidary supplies' , to my eyes .

It's actually fossilzed asbestos (tigers-eye) !
