Vintage Tibet Agate Necklace?
« on: October 23, 2013, 08:43:00 pm »
This agate necklace was a recent purchase at the TS and I've been trying to find a similar one on the internet without success.

I think it may be from the Tibet region, perhaps mid to early 20th century but I'm not sure. It's about 23 Inches in length and I'm not sure what the silver metal is. There are no maker marks on it that I can identify.

There is some designs and symbols on the silver metal I was hoping someone could identify or place to a region and perhaps a time period.

Does anyone know where and when this necklace might have been made.

Thanks!
Kevin

Thanks Mart. I know know it's not too valuable but was trying to find out where and when they were made. It looks like they used the resources available to them to make the necklace like many regions do.

Here's a few more recent TS purchases....  And a case I think where the clasp and or findings made of 14k gold may not trump in value (perhaps by much) what may be desirable or sought after on a given day.

In the image below is a Vintage Made in Italy Glass bead necklace and clip on earrings with white and gold foil beads with gold tone clasp/findings. Directly below it is a Vintage Unknown designer made 14k gold yellow glass beaded hand knotted necklace and screw back earrings.

It is my belief that I can can about or almost the same amount for the Made in Italy white gold foil necklace & earrings as the 14k gold yellow bead necklace and earrings if described accurately and promoted properly (I'm guessing 3 to 5  grams of gold)? Probably a good example that if the yellow beaded necklace had a designer name on it the value would go higher.

Anyways, I know you already know all this but I just thought I would share with others.

Well, I know that's what you wanted but from my perspective it could have been made last week !! I don't see vintage at all !!  But I am not a jewelry person either !!  The beads are thrown on a string with little care and the  form is something that looks like a Chinese import rather than one done by anyone that was experienced in quality jewelry !!
A couple of weeks ago I was looking at some of the Chinese import sites for my daughter !! You would be surprised at the silver jewelry findings, beads, spacers ect that you can buy for pennies !!  And they are from Tibet !! Tibetan silver is  cheap !!
Now the others are nice and will probably do well !!

Mart you are very right about the Chinese import sites! I have looked at them many times for the same things you mentioned and the prices are very cheap! I've been very tempted to start ordering  from them but the only thing that really holds me back is the time it takes to ship them and perhaps my time to put anything together but I'm sure the right person can make a small fortune creating and making jewelry for resale with the items they order!

I have ordered twice and was well pleased with the time frame,,less than two weeks !!  Later I will look up the one I ordered from and give you a link !!  They have beads and other things as well as jewelry !! Only thing wrong with the jewelry is some will turn a copper color when the thin gold plating wears off but they are very pretty !! I solved that problem by putting a coat of clear nail polish or gloss varnish over them !! Makes them last a little longer although I think the copper color is pretty !!  Just remember its just junk jewelry !! Fun for kids to play with or wear occasionally !!
