Antique (?) Toledo Swords
« on: March 21, 2005, 09:45:01 pm »
HI,
I purchased two matching swords from a woman that got them twenty years ago at a World's Fair from the Spanish Exposistion.  They are supposed to be fairly old.  They are @ 29" long, and have a silver dollar sized engraving on the end of each handle with intricate carving of what appears to be a battle scene. There are several words also which appear to be in Latin.  The last word is "Victoria", and I assume it is commemorating a victory of a particular battle.  The handles are wrapped in a braided (?) wire.  There is also decorative carving / etching on the blades with the word "toledo" mixed into the design.  There are also the words, "Gran Capitan" etched on the blades.  Does anyone have a clue as to what they are from, or what their value might be?  Thanks in advance!
