Droit de suite (French: The right to follow)

I was reading where the U.S. Copyright Office on December 12, 2013 issued a report endorsing a "Resale Royalty Fee", payable to living artists upon the resale of their works of art. This basically reverses a long standing position by our government.
From a bystander’s point of view, I can’t see where this would do anything to help an already soft art market.
What's your thoughts?

Been one in the UK for years now.

I disagree with it. We also had problems when it was first introduced with the buyer or seller being responsible for the payment.

I think the intention was to introduce aspects of music contracts and sales into the art world but it's a different beast.

So if the artist is dead will family get the money? It's just like the movies and TV Royalties. You can always thank a good lawyer somwhere! :)
