Italian, Hand-forged serving utensils
« on: February 04, 2014, 12:55:54 pm »
I picked up these unique serving utensils and am unable to find a single other anywhere. I see that the spoon is not symmetrical, so I am assuming they are hand-made. There is a small stamp which looks like "Made in Italy"

I love these pieces and would like some more information! Age, value, etc.

Thanks again for any help!

Does it have any other marks, hallmarks or anything other than "Made in Italy" ??

Nothing else. The made in Italy stamp is a bit worn down, so there may have been one at one time, but there is no remnant of it that I can see. I have gone over it with the ole' magnifying glass.

They look pretty typical of the souvenier items that tourists bring back !! May be a light silver plate !!  Most are not worn because they are not used, just poorly made !! A good sterling set would have more than "made in Italy" stamped on them !! I think Italy uses the 800 standard for sterling or around that number !!

You have a vintage set of serving pieces from Italy.  Both have beautiful pierced work.  These most likely were bought for dessert serving pieces.  However, people have also bought/used these for fish serving sets (even tho' it isn't traditional fish serving piece.)

Unfortunately, they aren't marked as sterling and don't appear to be as well from the pictures.

Unfortunately, as well, they don't demand a high price.  If you search ebay they are selling very low (Set $10 - $25).

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!
