family heirloom/armoire from asia?
« on: February 07, 2014, 05:14:40 pm »
Dear Antiquarians,
I've recently inherited this piece from my late grandmother in LA.
It's provenace is a mystery...Japan?China?
It's in good condition except for a little minor crackling of the paint in a couple spots.
The pics don't really do it justice,it's looks nicer in real life.
I beleive the bttm drawers are inlaid with cedar.
If anyone has insights to it's origin, age & value...we would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,James

Can you take a better pic of the entire item open and closed, as well as pics of the back, the dovetails on the drawer sides, and the drawer pulls ??  Need to see the detail !!

The dust cover indicates it's Machine made. Only The English & better grade furniture included them.

Yes, more chinoiserie secretaire than armoire.

Drawers don't look particularly old but could be deceptive.

I used the word Anglo Japanese, Rather then Chinoiserie. Because it's seems people under stand it better.
