Antique Optometrists utensil?

Hey guys,

I got this from a friend in Germany who said he was informed that Optometrists used them once upon a time. Have never come across it and an older Optometrist friend I have in Australia hasn't seen it before either.

Anyone seen one before?

I seem to remember seeing something like this before used for perception/astigmatism in early 1900's.

Found an illuminated one here in the US - Illuminated Eye Test from 1930's.
