What is it made out of? Is it marked. I think it did hold a glass vase. That is a really great item to me. Whoever made it was extremely imaginative and creative. It is like Art Nouveau meets Industrial. Way cool.

Looks like the bottom of an epergne !! Yes it would have had a V shaped glass vase that would fit in the base !!  It does look like from the Nouveau period !! Great find !! How big is it ?? You might find the vase part on ebay !! They were all heights but most were pretty tall,,for a vase that is !! I have one but is a cheapie silverplate bottom !! Yours may be spelter !!

mart--thanks for your info--not sure what speltor is in fact I don't know what metal it is at all, kind of heavy not magnetic--I was thinking pewter too greenacres, but is pewter soddered often?

Its done really well, looks like it was a straight line and then rolled and soddered together, just a whole different style, are you both thinking it's older ?

To me it looks like the design was cut out and then molded into shape. And then soddered shut.

Seeing the size....I believe it is a bud vase.  It would have a horn shaped glass piece that would have fit in it!

This was a popular style...and it transcends time.

Sort of along the lines as this one!  (But yours is much more ornate.)

Many times these were referred to as a trumpet vase due to the cone shape.
