how would one try to figure out if this is a vase or a glass, its just plain beautiful, is it a marking on the bottom?

How big is it ?? Sure looks like a figural R on bottom but not clear enough to tell !!

If it is hand-blown then I don't think there is a "mark" on the bottom.

That is probably the remants of the pommel that was heated to smooth it ..... rather than grinding it.

Could be,, can`t see well enough to tell !! Looks like some mid century juice glasses I remember from oatmeal boxes !!

good morning all-thanks for the posts.  Mart, it is 7 inches tall--thick and heavy--

it's a stunner in person, probably is a pommel mark on the bottom (thanks cogar)

Looked small from the pic !! Could be a vase since the bottom is heavier,,wouldn`t tip over !!

now-can I date it at all?  And how do they add the color only to the top?

It could be a Kosta Boda piece. It also may be the only one made so identifying it would be hard. Many pieces like that are signed but not the way you are speaking of.They would be finely engraved close to the bottom on the side (not the underside) with lettering that is only visible in good light with a magnifying glass or very good eyes. You have to turn it slowly in the light. I found a pieces being used as a pencil holder and sold it for close to 100.00. Most Kosta Boda pieces are finished on the bottom but not all.
