I think this is not that old. The rubbing / fritting can be easily achieved.

It's nice, whereas most tourist pieces like this are just plain, and whilst not being modern, it's not a period piece ( the ' tea party ' vignette would suggest 18th century )

I agree with Ipcress that this piece isn't real old (meaning antique - 100 years+) and chances are it isn't vintage 50 years+) but most likely mid to late 1900's.

In Dutch Tea Party would be "theepartij".  But the closest that this spelling in Dutch would mean "Couple Tea".

Interesting that the language on the plate comes up as Afrikaans which is a language spoken of West Africa and is only spoken/used in South Africa and Nambia.  It is an offshoot of 5 dialects of Dutch that evolved from Dutch settlers over time in Africa!  Always learn something new!

Thank you both for helping! I think the inscription reads 'Saartje' instead of 'Paartje'. Saartje is old name for a girl or maiden. My guess is that the girl is named Saartje and she is offering/ invititing the viewer a cup of tea! Anyway, thank you for your input.  :)

I notice you've asked elsewhere and someone said it was 18th century, possibly earlier.

Tread carefully with that. I might have misread the inscription but that doesn't affect the appearance of the item.

I'm as convinced as anyone can be by judging from a photo that it isn't 18th century.

Looking at the glaze and the wear on the feet I think mid 20th century is more likely !!

I agree that the best you can always do is have a "hands on" inspection!  Please let us know what you find out.

I always thought Saartje was translated into Sara!?  Also know of the name Saartje!  :)
