Inlay wood sofa, Spindle-like legs, blond wood
« on: May 21, 2014, 10:43:39 am »
We bought this sofa about 15 years ago from a friend of my mother.  My mother thinks it may be Greek or some Greek style, since her friend is from Greece.

I am considering selling it on Craig's list and I have no idea what it is worth, or the proper way to describe the style, period etc.  I did a bit of research by trying to find photos of similar pieces on google images, but the comps were so varied that I decided to seek your help.

One side of the cushion is in fine shape, while the other has been adored by my cat, and it shows.  Not torn, but worn, and I don't think a cleaning will bring that side of the cushion back to original shape.  So perhaps it would need to be reupholstered, or simply used with the good side of the cushion facing up.

In the attached photos, the last one shows the worn side of the cushion facing up.  (I should have fluffed it up a bit before I took the pic.)

I would appreciate any information any of you could give me.

By the way, the woman I bought it from is not reachable right now and won't be for some time.  Otherwise I would have gotten more information directly from her.

Thanks.

Looks to be a maple sofa from the 60`s !! It would have likely had either pillows or a cushion of some type for the back also !! If you notice how wide/deep the seat seems to be,, the cushions would have filled in that depth and made it more like a conventional sofa !!  I had one similar style but mine had all the cushions !!  There was no particular style on these except  "Contemporary" that I recall !!  They came after the wave of "Early American Furniture of the same era !!
