Statues from mid 1800's - not sure what they are
« on: May 24, 2014, 12:13:14 pm »
Hi, hoping one the resident experts can help. I've inherited these two small statues that were given to my grandmother as a wedding gift in the mid/late 1800's. One has a broken hand and the head was broken off and glued on. The other is perfect. I have no idea where they were made, tho the wedding was in North Jersey.

Hi, all I saw on the bottom was a small black mark that looked like a number possible but that's it. I didn't see any other marking. I noticed they had some very small holes in a few spots, not sure if those were used to suspend them for finishing or something. They are perfectly round holes, very small...

I don't have them with me, but can get a picture of the bottom tomorrow

Thanks, I have a bunch of stuff and no idea what it's worth, but some if it can be found around the web, but these statues (not even sure that's what they are called) have me mystified.

Appreciate the help! :)

Hi, I was just reading the rest of your message....I'm not in the UK, but my grandparents are from there. I'm not absolutely certain of the year of their marriage but it's got to be around 1890 - basing that on my father's birthdate and her age when he was born. Very possible this is from the UK.
