German Monk Dish New or Old?
« on: September 08, 2014, 12:56:27 pm »
Hi Guys,
What was this type of dish used for and when was this used? I found a matching cup on Etsy but there description of it was vague.  Thanks for the help!

Monk themed dinnerware/china was popular in the 1930 - 1940's.  Lots of big makers jumped on the band wagon with decaled mugs, teapots, dinnerware, dishes.  Even big makers such as Homer Laughlin and Lefton jumped in with their variations.

It seems this could be a candy dish or nut dish.

What are the dimensions of the piece please?

I have a matching mug. They were made in Trenton, NJ. They can be worth a couple dollars. The mug was listed at $90. Todays market could be different. You should be able to find it on eBay. The company is no longer in business. It is old by the way.
