Sea side tat I think

Finding it hard to find any info on plates that I was given I was going to donate them to the local museum if I could a little history about them one plate has union k made Czech and 55 on it on the front is the crest for the town the other has made in Germany on the back and a picture of a local bridge on it

Hi, I do not know the maker of the German plate, but the swing bridge connects Newcastle and Gateshead in England.  The "Made in Germany" had to be applied on all imported goods from Germany in Britain from 1887 onwards. Regards, Mat

Am a local lad .year has to be after the high level rail bridge was built am I right in thinking it is sea side tat

Mart, it is definitely a UK phrase.  I would assume a "seaside tat" (two words) is what we in US would liken to a tourist item or item that has more sentimental value than monetary?!

Yes tat means cheap junk, in this case a souvenir from the sea side or coast  ;D

It's not "a" tat though, just tat. Like you wouldn't say a junk. Hth.
