Odd Old Tooled Stone with Image
« on: October 02, 2014, 08:28:55 pm »
This was another item I got in the jewelry grab bag with the old gold ring at the TS the other day.

It's a small stone disk that looks to have been tooled on the side and under side and it measures about 1 inch in diameter. The image on the stone kind of resembles a face, I think.

The item puzzles me a bit. Just thought it was kind of interesting. Does anyone know what it may be (other than a stone of course) or been used for or anything else?

Thanks!
Kevin

It sure seems to be an ammonite fossil (that's been given the lapidary treatment) to me , KevinM .

Thanks for finding that fancypants! You are correct and that one looks almost the same. I thought it could have been used for jewelry as a pendant or something.

You're welcome , KevinM !

I used to be a fossil-hunter , as a kid , so this one was easy for me .

They used to put them on belt-buckles , bolo ties & other such findings , and I guess they still do .
