Vintage Germany Porcelain Doll
« on: October 03, 2014, 09:19:08 pm »
I purchased this doll at the TS today after a lady put it back on the shelf because she already had too many antique and vintage dolls. She thought it was from the early 1900's.

The doll measures about 5 1/2" in height, is marked Germany on it's back (difficult to see in the image) and has the initials "JW" on the side of the hip area towards the back. The doll is made of porcelain and is hand painted. the arms and legs are attached internally by string. Dolls are way out of my area of knowledge and I've searched all over for old German Dolls with the initials JW without success.

Does anyone know who made this doll and what the initials JW stand for and what this type of doll is called and when it might have been made?

Thanks!
Kevin

My opinion would be that it is an "artist doll" created within the last 25 or so years by "JW". The mold would have been made from an original doll, and thus the "Germany" marking would be rather faint. Once again, just my opinion.
The doll itself would be a "5 piece painted bisque" type.

Thanks Rauville! I also agree that this doll is a modern replication. Just doesn't seem like an old doll in addition to the faint markings.
