Pewter cup marriage old and new ?
« on: October 11, 2014, 01:21:20 pm »
This cup has been professionel made from two parts . The older top part is marked with three marks . Any idea from where and when maybe ? The holding handle looks also old but ?

Can you also see the same line of separation on the inside ??  Have no idea why anyone would re-make a cup like that !!  It does appear to be pretty old !!  If the same line is not on the interior then I doubt its a marriage !!

The upright rampant lion facing left was used as a standard mark as well in Scotland and by the Dutch.

Wish I could better discern the first two marks.

Unusual to have the marks on the edge...

On the inside it's difficult to sse but the line is there also . The left marking looks to me a Angel and the middle one no clue .

The angel with horn is the quality mark for pewter and is used in many countries !!  So the middle mark is likely where made !!  For Dutch pewter many are marked with an A for Amsterdam !! It will be an A with a couple of other symbols,,can`t remember the other two !!
