When you see signatures like these, how do you go about trying to research them?

You can type in the general of what the painting is and look for similar ones in style and go from there.  There are also list of listed artist that if you can make out the first initial you may be able to find.  I have found it very hard to trace artist down in the past.

When you are dealing with art you need to at least have an idea of the styles that were popular over the decades,. the second one looks similar to the 60`s big eye style many were painting !! Could be different but that would be the era most likely !!  The name looks like Cristina Rodgers !!  When you start typing the name in the google search look at the possible names that come up to see if there are any matches !! That would mean that someone has searched for her before !!
Third one is H Ross !!  If nothing comes up in the search you can be pretty sure they have never sold a painting other than maybe at a craft fair ect !!  There are several lists of American artists by year and name !!
First one has such a glare I can`t read it !!
You also need to know what medium is used and what it is painted on !!
