BUMP: Cambridge “Gloria” candlesticks
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:46:24 pm »
I lightened up the picture of these candle holders so viewers can better see the "design" on them and added the revised picture to this post.  Sam C

==============

Here is a pretty set of:

Cambridge “Gloria” candlesticks, gold encrusted black amethyst , 5 ¼” high

Correspondence received from the National Cambridge Collectors, Inc., dated April 30, 1990 states that these were made in the 1930’s and were part of a selection of decorative type pieces. It also stated said decorative pieces are in a reprint of a 1930 -1934 Cambridge Glass Catalogue which they had no copies of at said time of correspondence.

I have never been able to find any other information or reference to these and thus would have no idea what their value is …… which I would very much like to know.

Below are two pictures, one was taken in front of the window to show it is indeed black amethyst.

Any suggested “market” value would be appreciated.

Thanks much, Sam C

Market value is difficult to determine (for me anyway). Depends on economy, area of the country, antique shop vs live auction vs on line auction, etc.

If I were to insure them.......and I would........I would probably insure them for around $300 for the pair.

Thanks guys. And D&B, you confused me with your ….. I stay ''Hungry'' … remark.

The real reason I posted those candlesticks at this time was because the wife was doing some “web crawling” yesterday and found this Cambridge vase that was sold in eBay’s Elegant Glass category. Kinda excited her I guess and why I was curious about the value of the candlesticks. Since the Web site permits one to “Share This” via E-mail then I assume it is OK if I post it here on with its accompanying comment. To wit:

Quote
Another Cambridge vase was the 3rd highest priced item sold.  This Cambridge Amethyst embellished with encrustation in the “Gloria” pattern sold for $2,038.76 after receiving 9 bids.

$350.00 Dollars is conservative. it has to start some where assumeing there going to auction. at least they won't steal them for any less.

When I first saw the picture...all I could think is I hope they reflect how gorgeous they are without having to hold up to the light.  I think many collectors would pay $350.00 for them.  I am willing to bet an auction of avid collectors would bring more.....just how to find that certain auction.....

They are prettier than what the picture shows. The wife was just looking over my shoulder, got a candlestick, held it over next to the monitor so I could see both it and the above vase and said, "Now wouldn't that vase look pretty sitting between my candlesticks?" I said ..... forget that. ;D

Not looking to sell them unless someone offers a gawd awful price one couldn't refuse. They are back in their place on one of the shelves of the entertainment center as is a few dozen other pretty things. A Heisey basket, a Hawkes cream pitcher, a Roseville pitcher and mugs, the opalescent cranberry bowl, Dragonware, Carnival and others I forget the names of. Oh yeah, and my Imperial red slag "Dancing Nudes" vase.

I like this forum thus I enjoying posting comments and pictures of things other viewers are or may be interested in.
