Old Victorian Style Ring?
« on: November 25, 2014, 09:20:56 pm »
I got this old ring out of a jewelry grab bag a few months back and was trying to place a period of time of when and where it was made to it.

I think the ring is made out of silver with some other type of mixed metals and has an amber colored stone in it but I'm not sure what it is although it is cold to the touch. The ring is about 1" wide and also has wire filigree on it although it's in rough shape.

Does anyone know when and where this ring may have been made?

Thanks!
Kevin

It looks like the sort of thing that would come out of Mexico or even Spain/Italy very difficult to date the stone looks like Carnelian in fact almost definitely. Semi Precious not valuable as such. As to date could be 100 years old or 20 without any markings I would think its anyones guess.

Wilhenri, thanks for the information and identifying the stone, I think you are exactly correct!
I have some other pieces of jewelry (necklaces, etc...) with similar stones that I was going to call orange agate but now I think they are also Carnelian.

any half decent silversmith could cut away the broken part of the ring and put a new band on to fit your finger should not cost very much. if you wanted to wear it that is

I could have a new band put on it, not sure if it's worth it though. Listed below are some other TS finds and a few of the orange and amber color necklaces I have that I now think might be Carmelian, although I'm still not sure?. The yellow bead necklace I have no idea what the beads are made of (stone or glass) but the findings are all 14k gold. Any yellow stones used on necklaces?
