Chinese ink stone identification
« on: December 24, 2014, 10:20:47 pm »
Sorry. Moderator, can you remove my duplicate post? My browser was stuck over 5 minutes and I didn't see it post and I thought it had failed.

My stepmom wants me to appraise a Chinese inkstone. I have attached some pictures. There are 2 marks on the bottom. She told me the one on the left is Zhenzheng which translates to genuine.
The right I assume is the artists name.

It measures about 9" x 6". The front feels slightly rough, almost chalky. The carving is quite intricate. I know nothing about antiques, but it appears to be modern based on it's condition, if that makes sense.  So, does this piece have any value beyond its artisanal value?

Thanks!

Sorry, can't offer anything on your ink stone, others should be along to help with that but, no worries on double post as it happens all the time here, it's not you, it's the site, takes forever to load a pic.

Hi, I also do not know much about inkstones, but I think you are right that this is modern, so value should not be very high.
