morris recliner
« on: December 28, 2014, 01:49:58 pm »
I bought a rocking chair about 40yrs ago and was told that it is a Morris recliner. I am not really knowledgeable in antiques but wanted to find out what this rocking chair might be and what it might be worth. I have attached two photos.  I am new to this site and want to thank the one individual who did respond. I am not sure how to directly respond this kind person.  Before posting this,  I went on line to see if I could see other Morris recliners that looked like mine. Since none liked the same, I am sure the person who responded was correct in saying that it is not a Morris recliner.  I have attached a few more photos of the mechanism for tilting the back to the incline position. I looked underneath and not marks or indication for who made this chair was visible. So, I am not sure what to call it, expect a recliner.  I know it is old and oak.

Can we see how the back reclines please ??  Looks like it has the metal hook/bar on the back that fits in the slots !! Your chair is Morris style but I think it was made probably in the 20`s !!  Have you looked underneath for a makers name ?? Some have the company name that made the chair !! Many American mfrs made the Morris style chair !!  There are a few prices in the above link but they are for those chairs made by the Stickley company !! The first pic is an original by the Wm Morris Design Co. !!
