Please help me price antique doll bed
« on: April 09, 2015, 01:01:20 pm »
I have what appears to be an antique doll bed.  It is completely made of wood so I'm assuming it's from before these items were made partially with plastics.  It has a sticker on it that says:

Lot No
1199
061
HOLLOWAY
Trlr. & Stge.

The paint appears to be original but is not in great condition.  Some of the decorative knobs appear to have been chewed down by an animal.  If I sand these off and re-paint would that add or take away value?  Does anyone have an idea of how much this would be worth?  Any advice would be amazing:-)  Thank you!!

No, one of my neighbors was getting rid of a bunch of their antique furniture and this one interested me and my mom said it looked like one she had as a child in the 50s so I grabbed it:-)

Could be even older than that but at some point I think it was part of Holloway Trailer & Storage company auction !! May have went through other hands before your neighbors got it !!  Furniture manufacturers do not use "lot numbers" !!  Auctions do !!  At any rate it is a Nice Mission Style doll bed and well worth keeping !!

I agree with mart. I don't think that painting it would impact negatively on its value, it isn't that old, but you might want to consider staining  it and maybe  waxing it after you've given it a good sanding. That's what I'd do (but then again milions wouldn't)

I agree with Mario !  Nice stain and wax would be more appropriate for the style !!

That's a great idea:)  I think that's exactly what I'll do.  It makes sense and I think it will look beautiful.  Thanks everyone for your help!
