Smaller pictures this time.

Been cleaning it up all day with some thinner. Its so messy but its coming up really nice!

Retained all of the patina but got rid of years of grime.

Hopefully someone can identify the wood! :)

Its pretty similar.

Not sure if the grain is the same though - its a tough one.

The more I look at it the more it really does look like cedar !! If so might be the first piece from the UK I have ever seen made of it !!  I could not tell from the pics if it had the feathering so typical of English Elm !!

Looks like rosewood to me now that I can see it better. It is really turning out nice. Rosewood was used a lot in England and is often very figural and reddish brown.

Did I see,, or was I imagining that this wood had some knots in it ??  I am not that familiar with rosewood !! Only restored one piece made out of it and it was an English potty chair !! It sure was pretty wood though !!  Maybe !!
