As long as what you are saying it would be the pestle used with a sieve. It may not be all that old.
It also looks like the one I had that I used when canning.

Yepper, looks like a pestle for a chinois aka Conical Sieve.  Used to mash berries, fruit or to make puddings, soups, purees, etc.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

I have a similar one that I use when making jellies and jam !!  Mine is for a cone shaped sieve !!  There are different variations but the same use !!
