Davenport Desk
« on: November 24, 2015, 07:39:03 am »
Originally believed to have been made for a Captain Davenport by Gillows of Lancaster in the late-18th century, this small scale desk was ideally suited for onboard ships and quickly became popular for smaller sized studies. Equally useful today, this compact design in solid mahogany has 8 drawers beneath the writing slope and 4 drawers on both sides. Hinged-lid with leather-covered writing slope.

Anybody have an idea of what this item is worth?

Much Appreciated.

Agree with Mart.

Please show a picture of the side of a drawer, the back of the desk and if possible the underside of the desk.  Also a closeup picture of the hinges/screws/hardware.

Not too sure, this has been stored away for some time now. We have managed to retrieve an insert.

The problem with items like this is that very few are interested in something that does not have a use in todays homes !!  Prices are all over the place for similar pieces but I have seen few that have sold at any price !! My opinion is that it would bring less than $500. in todays market !! And there has been some work done on it which doesn`t help !!  Its a nice desk for the type though !!  Could be wrong but really do not think so !!

In my area these sell for $150 to $250.  Just not high demand and especially ones with "condition" issues (in other words not all original and pristeen).
