First "What Is It" for 2016!!!
« on: January 01, 2016, 11:53:42 pm »
Okay folks, this item isn't mine!  It is on Ebay, but for some reason he intrigues me.  It looks like it should be familiar...but I can't figure out what it is!!!!  Apparently the seller doesn't know either!

It is described as:  "Antique-Primitive-Wood-Hanging-Spinning-Wheel-Spoon-Ladle-Utensil-Rack-Holder"

Take a look/see at Item # 381488286219

For some reason it won't let me paste link to it!  Will try again later!

I think yours is designed for hand weaving woolen rugs where a loom would be used !!  The above is a similar tabletop version for sewing !!  Don1t think its actually very old in looking at the turnings, finish wear ect !! Probably mid century or so !!

I don't know about what it is.  Looks like a spinning wheel of some sort.  What I can tell you is the title looks like some I've seen on Etsy.  They title them so that google picks up keywords for searches.  Evidently this lister thinks this could be used for a kitchen utensil rack!!!  If you look at the way some of the sellers on Etsy title their items you will see what I mean.  Seems to me to use as a kitchen utensil rack you would have to lose half the item.  This is just my observation.  I am stunned sometimes at the titles some sellers use to get google searches.

I think its a spool holder for woolen yarn !!  Hangs overhead so no tangle, thread is loaded into a shuttle, loom in front of the person !! Would be easy to weave detailed patterns where multiple colors are used !!

Thanks cogar for posting the link!  Don't know why my computer/site wouldn't work. Appreciate it!

Jisherf, I agree.  I laugh often at how many descriptions people try and cram in to identify an item...most of the time it is when they don't know what an item is.  However, I like others on the forum, have advised sellers what their item is with references and they only cram more descriptors in.

Mart, my first thought was that it was a hand held yarn winder but when the counter weight came in and hanging....wonder if it is all complete or were married pieces?!
Love this unique double winder

I think its complete !!  Note the holes where each individual thread/yard would come through !! The counterbalance would hold it to the correct height for easy unwinding as the weaver used it !! Thread colors could be changed easily !! And moved up and out of the way when not needed !!

KC I agree!  This item would look cool however, in a sewing room but a kitchen......I'm just not feeling it.

What I am talking about is similar to these but overhead !!  These feed through eye screws where the one on ebay feeds through the holes !!
