1940s German belt and buckle
« on: April 27, 2016, 09:10:29 am »
Any Idea of value?  I have seen a buckle but not with the original belt.  I found this in my dad's bureau.  He never talked about where it came from. He was in the Navy in the Mediterranean but only mentioned transporting Polish Prisoners of War.
Gott Mitt Uns on the buckle means God with Us.  On the leather near the buckle is an oval embossed with some writing that I can not read and the Date 1940 in the center.

No idea as to value, but I believe "L&F" relates to Linden & Funke, Iserlohn.

Here is a link to the RZM metal codes used by Germany during that period. (Look under M4/Buckles)

Palady, I came across one of these, it was made of aluminum, in a flea market in the 80's and liked it so much I had a local leather craftsman make a black bekt for it.  There has to be a special cut to the leather to wrap around the interior of the buckle.  You can't just take a modern leather belt and install it on the buckle.  I wore it for a while, had a few comments regarding the Swastika, and finally sold it on Ebay and I think it brought somewhere near $60.   Hope this helps.

Thanks KC and Jondar,

All good info.  I have the original belt.  You can see it in the "set" picture. It has two flaps or ends one with holes and an over flap without holes.

That's a beauty. WWII Third Reich heer belt and buckle.

I'd want a couple of hundred for that.

( i noticed a fake sell on Ebay recently for $160 )

I have been busy with my dad having surgery the past week (pacemaker put in and had to go in the next day because the wiring was wrong).  I was thinking about you finding this and wondering about his participation in WWII.  I have spend the last few days asking my dad more about his involvement (Navy and he transported the "Navy Seals" before they were called the Navy Seals").  This is such a treasure.  It's actually priceless because it was your dad's. But for the market and being original - I agree with Ipcress that I wouldn't let it go for under $200.

Hi KC,

I hope your dad is doing well. I was lucky enough to be able to take care of my Dad for the last eight months.  He pasted away on the 17th he was over 90.  We talked a lot about his WWll service in the Navy Armed Guard and the SeaBees. We looked over tons of photos and wrote on them.  As well as I knew him, there was always something new to hear and learn. That is why the belt surprised me.  He has one brother left so I will ask him if he knows what he story behind the German Belt.

Pelady, So sorry for your loss.  Wow, 90!  So glad you got to have long talks and discover more about him AND get to mark the photos with details information!  It is soooo true that you would learn something new.

I got dad talking about growing up and and all his brothers/sisters and heard more new ones this time!  Even some good ones one him/my mom when they were newly married.

Hope you find out more about the belt!

KC
