Antique Tapestry?
« on: July 09, 2016, 12:15:57 pm »
Does anyone know anything about this tapestry? I got it from my grandmother, who enjoyed collecting antiques. I've been looking online, but cannot find anything similar. I'm wondering where/when it is from and possible value. Any incite is greatly appreciated!!

I'm certainly not an expert, but this looks kind of like a needlepoint/petite point fire screen we have, which was made in England ca. 1860.

With the picture given that was my first impression as well.

Can you please post a close up of the front? the back?

Just some silly trivia.  ;D ;D

The confusion in names, …. like “parking” in/on a driveway …… and “driving” on a parkway.

So technically, this is a fireplace screen ….. to hide or cover the open fireplace ….

And this would be a fire screen ……. to prevent sparks and burning embers from escaping ….

Ahem. Here's a picture of our firePLACE screen. :) ;) :D

The point was, before all this pedantry, that the depictions of flowers, and especially the acanthus leaves in the corners, is similar. Our fireplace screen was made in England ca. 1860 and is in a rosewood frame not dissimilar to the one in Cogar's post.

I don't know how to price this, but I don't think I'm too far off on the date.

Frankly, this wears me out. I think I'll go sit in the waiting room.....or wait in the sitting room....
